Living with a rare disease - a conversation with Prof. Ian Stedman
You last listened June 17, 2021
This special episode is all about persons with rare diseases and the importance of advocacy. Professor Stedman share his amazing story from childhood symptoms to remission and what is it to deal with a disease that nobody can identify. This particularly touching episode reminds us that it is not the role of the physician alone to play the role of the detective, that Dr. Google can sometimes be right and how pleasant it is to wear shorts during the summer!
Our host, Dr Michelle Batthish (Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics' Division of Rheumatology at McMaster University) invites you to listen into the first episode of the first series of the One in a Million Podcast, which will serve as a background and introduction into the world of autoinflammation.
Ian Stedman is an Assistant Professor, Canadian Public Law and Governance in the School of Public Policy and Administration. He is also cross-appointed to the graduate program at Osgoode Hall Law School. Being a person with a rare disease, Professor Stedman also advocates for the rare disease community and has a growing research program focusing on the technologies and policies driving greater personalization in healthcare. He currently sits as a member of the CIHR Institute of Genetics' Institute Advisory Board and previously held the inaugural research fellowship in Artificial Intelligence Law & Ethics at Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children’s Centre for Computational Medicine.
