If you don’t know him, Reed is easily one of the sharpest political scientists and theorists living today, whose work has focused on race and U.S. politics. His new book explores “race reductionism,” and argues that boiling down policy debates to questions of race crushes the kind of working-class movements that arose during the New Deal and Civil Rights eras — movements whose objectives would benefit communities of color.
