LEVER TIME PREMIUM: Rupert Murdoch’s Climate Legacy

You last listened October 16, 2023
On this week’s episode of Lever Time Premium, exclusively for The Lever’s supporting subscribers, David Sirota is joined by Allison Fisher, director of the climate and energy program at the watchdog group Media Matters, to unpack Rupert Murdoch’s lasting influence on climate action, after the media mogul announced his retirement last month.

There is perhaps no one on the planet who has done more to spread dangerous climate change misinformation and undermine efforts to address the crisis than Rupert Murdoch. His empire has included newspapers, magazines, and television stations, including The Wall Street Journal, New York Post, and the notorious Fox News Channel — and he has used these outlets to platform climate denialism.

During today’s interview, David and Allison discuss the Murdoch’s rise to power, his influence on the editorial decisions within his various media outlets, and his contradictory public commitment  to climate action while his companies peddled climate denial and attacked climate advocates.
