Hello and welcome to REINCheck. I am your host, Andrea Rice, and today we are checking in to discuss the power of gratitude. With Thanksgiving quickly coming upon us, there isn't a better time to embrace the practice of gratitude. This year has been trying in a lot of ways. So I'm sure, unfortunately, that you can easily picture a recent day that held some challenges for you.

Maybe everything seemed to be going wrong, but then imagine in the midst of all of the chaos, you pause, take a deep breath, and you simply list three things you're thankful for. Suddenly the world feels a little lighter, a little bit better and brighter. It really does, doesn't it? But why? Well, the reason is because gratitude isn't just a buzzword.

It's a practice grounded in neuroscience and psychology. When we express gratitude or take a moment to think and feel the things we're grateful for, our brain releases dopamine and serotonin, two crucial neurotransmitters responsible for our emotions. They make us feel good. And who couldn’t use a little feel good boost added to their daily routine? So what happens when we take a moment to show our gratitude for the people, experiences, and things in our life?

Well, we boost our mood. Recognizing the good in life can increase happiness levels and reduce depression. It also reduces stress by shifting our focus from what's lacking or stressful to what's abundant in our lives. By shifting the focus, we reframe our perspective. Think about it. When you acknowledge the good in your life, you begin to see more, feel more, and appreciate more.

It becomes a positive feedback loop of happiness. So, we know the benefits of taking a moment every day to reflect upon what we are grateful for. Now let's take a look and talk about some easy ways to add the practice of gratitude into your daily routine. One easy way is to start your day with a gratitude journal. Just simply jot down three things every day that you're grateful for.

It's a great way to start your day. Or tell someone you appreciate them, or give a stranger a compliment. It'll make both your day and theirs. I guarantee it. I mean, just think about how good you feel when you're walking through a store and a stranger stops you to tell you, hey, you've got a beautiful smile. Or I love those shoes.

It really just boosts your mood. And three, throughout the day, remember to pause and soak in your surroundings. Appreciate the sun on your face, the taste of your food, or the good health of a loved one. Really, it just takes a minute to be mindful and think of something you're grateful for, and it really does boost your mood.

The beauty of gratitude is in its simplicity. The more you practice, the more you look for things to be grateful for, the more profound its effects. Remember, gratitude is like a muscle. The more you flex it, the stronger it becomes. Transforming not just your mind, but your entire life. So, let's take a moment right now to express some gratitude.
