Andrea Rice [00:00:19] Hello and welcome to REINCheck. I'm your host, Andrea Rice. And today we are checking in with REIN's Marketing Director to discuss a game changer in design and dialog – ChatGPT's fusion with Canva. Tiffany, it's a pleasure to have you here today.
Tiffany Thompson [00:00:36] Thank you so much. I'm always happy to be here with you. One of my favorite topics.
Andrea Rice [00:00:41] Yes, I know you love A.I. and ChatGPT. You generously gave your time and insights to our members earlier this year discussing ChatGPT, and that was back in May. So, fast forward from May and the A.I. landscape has transformed leaps and bounds.
Tiffany Thompson [00:01:01] It absolutely has. I think I was thinking about it today how, you know, you have dog years, so every year a human has is seven for a dog. I was thinking that's kind of how A.I. is right now and what five months ago the landscape looked entirely different than it looks today. And not only are there new capabilities of these tools, but there are new tools that have come into the market or that are being funded that, you know, have a lot of potential for really depending on how you use them, streamlining business, personal, you know, really streamlining your life, using these tools. So, it's an understatement, I guess, to say it's leaps and bounds. It's a lot to keep up with. But there are a lot of new capabilities that these tools have.
Andrea Rice [00:01:55] Yeah. And one of those new capabilities is the integration with Canva. And I know a lot of our members use Canva to create marketing materials, so I thought this might be a good time to discuss that integration that Canva now has with ChatGPT. So, what can you tell us about this recent integration?
Tiffany Thompson [00:02:15] Well, what Canva has done and Canva, as you know, is a fantastic platform, especially if you have no design background or design, you don't need marketing and design skills to use Canva, which is what makes it so great. It's templated. But now they've added a lot of A.I. features, so you could always use ChatGPT content in Canva. What they've done is introduce A.I. capabilities. So, while you can use content, it's not necessarily an integration with ChatGPT because of course that's open source, right? So, it's A.I. capabilities. But an example would be creating content. So, let's say you wanted to have, you know, 50 quotes that come from a specific author and they're in the public domain, so there's no copyright problem. You could take those 50 quotes. You could create one template in Canva, and then you could use a tool that integrates Excel with Canva to now populate 50 unique individual posts in Canva. So, you can see that content creation becomes much faster, much easier, much cleaner. But with new with the Canva features, they've introduced Magic Studio, which has a host of A.I. tools like Magic Eraser and Magic Edit. Now you can do text to video. You can create infographics. You can use Magic Switch, which basically takes if you have an image and you want to make it into a blog post, now you can use Magic Switch to repurpose content, which is just mind-blowing to me incredible an incredible capability. But ChatGPT itself can now speak, hear, and see all of those capabilities haven't been rolled out to the general public yet. But for example, you can now take a picture. You will be able to take a picture of what's in your refrigerator and say, what can I make from these ingredients? You can upload a document and ask ChatGPT to analyze the document. What are the sales trends? What, you know, are there anything, any takeaways that you should have? You know, and they're introducing voice so that now ChatGPT will be able to converse with you when you ask it a question. So just really a lot of great tools for people who, as I said, you may not be technologically savvy, may not have design skills, may not have a marketing person. These tools you can use to elevate your marketing collateral and to create enough content to really stay top of mind for your customers.
Andrea Rice [00:05:29] And I think that's the key component there is, you know, it gets very time-consuming and, you know, kind of creatively draining to create the amount of content that you really need to create in this digital age. For our listeners who use ChatGPT and Canva, like how do you explain how this really enhances the user's experience in Canva?
Tiffany Thompson [00:05:58] Well, the A.I. tools in Canva is at a point now where you can really do anything you can conceive. So, text to image already existed, right? You can describe what you want to see and the A.I. will create that. Now, you can do that with video. It doesn't work as well. There are still going to be improvements that need to be made. Or let's say most of it is image-based. So, let's say you have an image and, you know, it's not quite big enough for whatever medium you're using. Now you can use the A.I. to generate additional parts of the photo. And so that. Yeah. So, from a perspective for small business owners and individuals. You now essentially have the capability to create your own stock photography, your own marketing pieces. You can make it brand right, you can use, you can make an infographic, you can repurpose all of your material so that you can now use your content on different platforms. We used to say it takes five to six times for someone to see or hear a commercial, and I recently read that with social media it takes seven hours, seven hours or 11 touchpoints. So that means that's a lot of content, right?
Andrea Rice [00:07:25] Right.
Tiffany Thompson [00:07:26] So anything that is that enables you to take the heavy lift out of creating content so that you can spend your time doing what you want to do and need to do as a small business owner, which is making connections and generating leads. You know, it just changes the game completely.
Andrea Rice [00:07:47] Right. And so, I think that's the key point, is just, you know, the time-saving aspect and, you know, what scenarios would you see this being used most useful for our members, either just, you know, A.I. in general, this Canva integration, like how do you see it really helping the real estate professional?
Tiffany Thompson [00:08:09] Sure. So, mostly with content generation. So, if you want to ChatGPT, for example, you can use to generate to help you write your blog posts or to help you write your captions for Facebook. I guess they're not captions, they're posts, but to help you write those for Facebook. Certainly, everything that you generate through ChatGPT you have to be aware of copyright issues. You know, you have to read the fine print. And if you are a writer and you start writing something, it can help you generate ideas, brainstorming, you know, what are ten articles that are that I could write about real estate right now in this particular month in October, you know, and can they have a scary theme. And so ChatGPT will it will help you do that. It will help you to brainstorm and to write. So, I think blog content, number one and number two, social media content, whether it's images or the actual post themselves. So, I could say to ChatGPT please create a 30-day content calendar for Facebook about X, right? So, we're in October. I may ask it to create pertinent real estate tips for my particular demographic that I'm trying to target and to make it have some element of spookiness for October. And all of a sudden you have unique content, and now all you have to do is schedule it, right? So that you really can set it and forget it. You don't have to attend to it constantly as you would right now.
Andrea Rice [00:09:53] Right. Yeah. And if you. I feel like it's very exciting stuff. And if you know Tiffany you know she thinks it's very exciting stuff because she talks about it all the time.
Tiffany Thompson [00:10:03] All the time.
Andrea Rice [00:10:04] All the time. But for those of you that still have not even, you know, created a free account with ChatGPT, you know, I really do recommend just go in and play around with it. I mean, don't you feel like that Tiffany? I think people will be pleasantly surprised at what they can do with this new resource.
Tiffany Thompson [00:10:26] I agree. And I know that. I'll tell you when, and I think we talked about it the last time we talked, the last time we did a podcast episode, when I first saw it and heard about it, I was, you know, it was scary. It seemed very scary, especially in a marketing space. And I said, you know what? In order to get the best possible outcome for our members and for our organization, I need to learn this tool, right? And so, I think a lot of people may be a little apprehensive or they can't see the use cases in the very beginning, with ChatGPT, it was hard to explain to someone, why would I want to do that. And I remember talking to people and, you know, they were writing specific marketing pieces for real estate and they were like, well why would I want to use it for that? I enjoy that. And I said, Absolutely, I enjoy writing too. But if it's not your core competency, if it's not something you enjoy and you don't have a marketing person, well now you have a basically a marketing assistant, you know, in this tool. So, I encourage people to, if they can, to just go in and take a look at what the tools can do. It doesn't mean that you will automatically want to use all the tools that are available. But what I find is if I get I'm working on a project or something and I get stuck, oh, now I remember these tools exist. Right?
Andrea Rice [00:12:01] Right.
Tiffany Thompson [00:12:01] So if I were, you know, a small business owner, a real estate agent, and I was trying to create a specific stock photo, and maybe I don't want to spend money on, you know, a image software or to purchase the photos, now I can create my photo myself, and then I create the photo and I might go take it into Magic Studio and say, there's a potted plant in the corner. I don't want the plant there so I can use Magic Erase and remove the plant. So that would have taken hours before to learn how to do it. To use a tool like Creative Cloud or to hire someone who could do it for you. So again, you may not immediately see a use case. I don't think I'm going to use ChatGPT to look at my refrigerator, what's in there and say, hey, now what can I make from this? But certainly, you could do that. There are practical applications, but as a a small business owner, you know, you're always looking to leverage your time and your money, right? Because that's always in short supply. And so, these tools help you to do that, in my opinion. They can.
Andrea Rice [00:13:26] Yeah. Well, thank you, Tiffany. I love when you come on here. I love when you talk about all this stuff before we sign off, is there anything else that you would like to add or any parting thoughts for us before we sign off?
Tiffany Thompson [00:13:42] I would just say that we're in a really. It's amazing in the true sense of the word. Awesome, I think. I would say in the true sense of the word. It's there are some changes that are happening that, you know, we just really couldn't even conceive before. And I think whether you use the tools or not in your business or in your life, it's good to be aware that of what's out there. You know, I saw a video today and I was thinking, is this real? Like, it can't be real. It looked completely real. And so, then I did a little bit of research online, and it turns out it wasn't real. You know, the speaker and the audience had been kind of spliced together. And so regardless, if you use the tools, I think it's a good idea for everyone to be familiar with them and what they can do so that you can just keep your eye on the ball of understanding what's real and what's not real too.
Andrea Rice [00:14:45] Yeah, I think that's a really good point. And then we'll have you back in five months and we'll see how the landscape has changed again.
Tiffany Thompson [00:14:53] You'll be talking to in five months. You'll just have this conversation with ChatGPT and it will talk back to you. So, but that's the last thing I would say. We're always going to need people. We're always going to need the individual person to think, what do I need? How do what's the best way for me to connect with someone else? A computer can't do that. A program can't do that. The programs are tools so that you can go do the things that you're good at and that you want to do all the time. And I think as long as people continue to see it that way, I hope everyone continues to see it that way in the world. We may be okay, but, you know, it's just a really interesting space growing every day.
